Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto in a condolence letter addressed to Mrs. Ejaz Shafi, wrote, "Senator Asif Ali Zardari and I are writing to condole the sad demise of your husband Mian Ejaz Shafi. The loss of a spouse is a great tragedy. Our sympathies are with you at this difficult time. Please accept our heartfelt condolences and convey the same to other members of the bereaved family. "

She also prayed to Almighty Allah to grant eternal peace to the departed soul and courage to the family members to bear this irreparable loss with equanimity.
